I got nothing at the moment my good peeps!

Eating this weekend went to the shit; well actually it was bloody delicious, but not conducive to the waist line! I don't think good eating for 3 days will reverse the damage, but we shall see.

In the interim I have a joke someone emailed to me yesterday. If you haven't already seen it, here tis.

Lipstick at school:

According to a news report, a certain private school in Newcastle Upon Tyne, was recently faced with a unique problem.

A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints.

Every night the maintenance man would remove them and the next day the girls would put them back.

Finally the Headmistress decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night (you can just imagine the yawns from the little Princesses).

To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required.

He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet bowl, and cleaned the mirror with it, the silence was broken by a large number of gasps, a few girls vomited and apparently someone fainted, however since then, to the relief of the maintenance man, there have been no lip prints on the mirror.

There are teachers.... and then there are educators.

Gold. & it's almost a plumbing joke :0)

FFF Challenge After W8

So. I didn't get around to weighing in or measuring after week 7 as I was headed up to the snow. I did weigh & measure after week 8 on returning from the snow & while I was lucky enough to have the scale weigh remain the same, I put on 4.5 cms over my body.

Measurements (Starting after week 1):

Waist (Belly Button): 88cms; W2 85cms; W3 82cms; W4 83cms; W5 81.5cms; W6 81cms; W8 81.5cms

Pot Belly: 94cms; W2 91cms; W3 90cms; W4 90cms; W5 91cms; W6 89.5cms; W8 93cms

Butt (broadest part): 108cms; W2 105cms; W3 104cms; W4 105cms; W5 105cms; W6 104cms; W8 104cms

Bust: 97cms; W2 95cms; W3 96cms; W4 96cms; W5 96cms; W6 93.5cms; W8 94cms

This week: +4.5cms!!! oops. Most of it pot belly. Bloated??? Much!!!

Scale weight was the same: 63kgs
Total lost since start of challenge: 2kgs

Exercise has been fairly non existent as I've been sick with a very snotty cold. Other than attempting to ski last weekend, I made it to Pump this Wednesday & also managed a bit of tready & bike before the class.

I have fallen a bit behind in my goals - I was hoping to weigh in at 61kgs after this week! Hahahaha that is not going to happen!

I did test out my fat calipers last night & according to the chart that comes with them I am at 24% body fat, which puts me in the Average or Fair category. Lean or good appears to be 16 - 20%, so I am going to aim for 18%. Of course my reading may not be that accurate, but it is a starting point & so long as the % decreases, I will be happy. According to a formula I found, my proposed body weight to acheive this is 58.39kgs! Looks like I need to review my goal weight.

I also did Plumbing Boy's measurement as well & I think he was a little shocked that he has a higher % than me, considering all the dirt bike riding he's been doing of late, I think he expected to be leaner. Perhaps he'll be cutting back on his nightly garlic bread!!!

Anyhoo. Here's what I've been feasting on if anyone is interested!

Snow Report

Last Thursday, I headed off with my niece Tess & my sister Fi to Harrietville, at the base of Mount Hotham to stay with our cousin S & her partner H for Tess's first ever snow experience! Mount Hotham is part of the great dividing range of mountains that stretch more than 3,500 km (2,175 mi) from northeastern tip of Queensland, running the entire length of the eastern coastline through New South Wales, then into Victoria and turning west, before finally fading into the central plain at the Grampians in western Victoria. The width of the range varies from about 160 km to over 300 km that run parallel to the east coast of Australia between Victoria & NSW. Mt Hotham is fairly close to the NSW border.

Fi & I went to Mount Buffalo (we think!) to see "snow" when we were in primary school & compared recollections on the trip. We both remembered the same experience: we arrived, got out of the car & walked around for 5 minutes. Made a couple of snow balls, took a couple of photo's, got back in the car & left - total experience, 15 minutes max! We were aiming to make Tess's experience a little more exciting than that!
I had a bit of trouble getting away from work Thursday morning so we didn't hit the road until 11am. Our first stop was for lunch was in Glenrowan, where Ned Kelly , one of Australia's most famous bush rangers made his last stand.
Of course we were wondering what was up his "skirt"......
Not much actually!
We came across this outdoor dunny in the main street & Fi just had to have a look under the door to see if anyone was in there. She could see a pair of boots.

She tried looking over the door & couldn't see anyone, so gingerly open the door.................................

& then screamed.........................

As a red back spider lurched towards her!!! Tess & I got a good giggle out of it.

Onwards to Harrietville, arriving late afternoon in time to catch up with S who had the day off & get prepared for our day up the mountain! Both S & H work for Mt Hotham; they also snowboard & ski, so S checked out what gear we had, what gear they could loan us & what gear we needed to hire.

After an early(ish) night, we headed up the mount @ 6.30am with S & H who were both working. It takes them 45 - 60 minutes each way, each day. After a coffee, we headed to the ski hire shop for boots, ski's & helmets.

One of my coworkers loaned me his ski pants - he did warn me they were bright, I figured at least I wouldn't get lost!!!!!

Yep - if you hadn't already seen them on FB, they are fluoro orange! Before we headed up the mountain, the local TV weather forecast was for 100kms per hour wind! Mt Hotham website toned it down to 50kms & we almost didn't go that day, but we were up & dressed & pumped to go, so figured what the hell. It was bloody cold!

We caught the bus to the "Big D" also know as the big daycare centre, where parents can leave their offspring for 1/2 or full days for ski lessons & creche. We had another cuppa while we waited for a ski instructor to become available & then the lovely & patient Wil took us outside into the blizzard for a lesson! None of us had ever been skiing before, so we were complete beginners! Once we all learned how to stop, we hitched a ride halfway up the beginners run Easy Street to practice in a cordoned off space that had a travellator to get you back up to the top of the small slope.

Thank God we didn't have to try & walk up that hill in ski's! After our two hour lesson we were ready for lunch. Fi was completely cactus & didn't manage any more skiing that day. While Wil hadn't had time to take us up the ski lift for a run down the entirety of Easy Street, he said we were right to give it a go. After lunch, Tess & I strapped our ski's back on & braved the weather.

Up the lift we went! Of course I fell over getting off the lift & again in the first stage of Easy Street when a bit of ice made me lose balance go a bit out of control - thought it best if I fell over then rather than getting more speed up! Tess stopped & waited for me about 10 metres further on & was enquiring if I was OK. I yelled out that I'd have to be as Wil wasn't there to pick me up! I eventually hauled myself up & into position - it's bloody hard getting up with the ski's on your feet! I was just about to unclasp one ski to make it easier when I made it up.

I made it all the way down without further incident.
As did Tess who is far more coordinated & elegant on ski's than I!!!! I was pretty cactus as I had a cold & recon I expended as much energy sniffing my snot back as I did skiing. I refused to look like some of the little kid's on the mountain with 2 frozen solid runs of snot from nostril to chin!

Tess went up the chair lift & did the run a couple more times before she got cold. Another cuppa & a warm up ensued before heading back to the bus stop at which Fi & Tess decided to build a snowman.

Yes, I am well aware that it doesn't look much like a snowman. You can thank my sister for that! I had no part in this creation! My feet had sweated in my snow socks which were now wet & my feet were cold! The wind had kicked up a notch so I was trying to keep out of the weather & keep an eye out for the bus.

We made it back to Hotham central - while this is a great stubbie holder, I was after something a little more warming!

We hauled off our gear - I had bruised around the top of my calves from the boots - & attempted to defrost.

H wandered past on his lunch break who recommended we go down to the bar which has a much better fire place. So we returned our gear & borrowed some fur lined space or moon boots (I've forgotten what they were called) via inside assistance from H & made our way to the bar.

Fi & I got ourselves a glass of Red (or 2) each & sat in the window, while Tess went outside & made snow angels.

& played with icicles until S & H finished work & headed back down the mountain before they closed the road! They'd had 10cm's of snow Thursday night & we found out on Saturday they'd had 19 cms Friday night after we left!

S, H & I went to the pub for a bit, Fi & Tess preferred to have a bath & chill in front of the fire & watch some Teev. Around 9pm the power went out across the whole town, so we headed home for the night.

Saturday we had a sleep in (well, the Fi & Tess did - I was awake at 5.30am & saw S & H off) & pottered about the house playing with the animals.

S bought herself 2 rabbits a couple of months ago. 3 litters later they have 20 bunnies!!

& some bunny bums! The biggest one is the pappa bunny; the newest arrivals are in the hutch & smaller than the palm of your hand. Needless to say Tess nearly took one home! If it wasn't for the 7 hour drive, I think Fi would have caved.

This is Jasper, the king pin of the house. He's massive & slightly grumpy & beats up on darling Tigger......

who is half his size & 2 years his senior & is just adorable! She eventually made friends with us by the time we left & Tess had some lovely snuggles. Jasper on the other hand, was prone to swiping at you with his massive paw if he felt like it!

This is a "gun powder" shed at the back of their block. Cute! A bit too far from the house to use as a wood shed though.

The timber "hut" with the flue in this picture is actually a pizza oven! Can you see Jasper sitting in the elevated run to their outdoor cat enclosure?

We spent the rest of Saturday pottering about Bright, checking out all the gift & nicknack shops, returning with soap, a frypan, purple metalic water bottle (yes, that was one of my purchases), some books & a pretty stone for Tessa's fish tank. We came home to Harrietville & cooked our hosts a roast dinner & all had an early night as S & H were still working & Fi & Tess had a big drive on Sunday.

The journey home was uneventful, I drove the Hume leg, but we did stop in at a winery just out of Milawa where I bought a case of the cab/merlot we'd sampled the night before. We also stopped at the olive shop in Milawa for all things olive!

I can't wait to see Harrietville in summer! Plumbing boy will bring his dirt bike & go riding with H; S & I are going to have a kayak adventure! The air is crisp, the scenery is amazing & best of all, I didn't think about work once!

Not much

Not much happening around here. Still trying to recover from my cold - been a bit of a snot factory this week & am up to my second box of tissues. Gross. I wish it would bugger off as I'm going to the snow tomorrow. I've sorted 2 days off work to go with my Sis & my niece.

Everyone who's ever been skiing has been giving me "tips" on how to ski (I've never done it before). Even my chiro said I need to learn to fall over rather than getting too out of control as it hurts more when you crash into people & things at high speed. He also reminded me (while sniggering) he was working this coming Monday if I need him. Smarty pants. I hope I don't break anything. Wish me luck!

Not sure if I'll have time to post my weigh in results tmw, not that they will be so good this week. Between cold & flu tabs making me not interested in food they also seem to be making me retain fluid & I feel puffier than a puffer fish!

Hopefully I'll be back next week feeling much better with loads of boring photo's of SNOW!

FFF Goals W7


Week 7: Thursday August 12th – Wednesday August 18th


I’d aimed to be at 62kgs by the end of this week; not sure that will happen.

I'd canceled going to Port Fairy with Jax this weekend to visit with my Grandmother so I could go to Plumbing Boy's motorbike dinner Friday night, breaky with friends on Sunday & get ready for our snow weekend (next weekend). Now I'm sick & my sister is visiting with her partner Saturday & staying the night. And she forgot to mention Tess has a gymnastics's comp on Sunday in Geelong.

This is how I feel Friday morning...
2 peeps have pulled out of tonight's dinner & while the others still want to go, I'm not sure I do. I can't be shagged entertaining my dinner guests tonight or tomorrow night. While I love Tess, I'd rather go out for breaky with the girls than spend a whole day watching the gymnastics's. Despite all the reasons for & against, I should probably keep my germs at home & not share them with anyone!!!!

Food Goals:
Friday will be my free day as we are supposed to be going out for Thai
Rest of the week stick to approx 20 points per day.

My sis is arriving Wednesday night with Tess & I've organised Thursday & Friday off work. We are going to the snow! One of my cousin's on Dad's side lives at the base of Mount Hotham & she & her partner are mad snow boarders & both work on the Mount over snow season. Neither my sister nor I have skied before (nor has Tess), so we are going to give it a crack.

I need to shake this illness & get orgygamised!

Last nights dinner was put of til a time when everyone can make it & everyone is well. Despite an early night, the lurgy is making its way down into my chest now. BAH. Only been up for an hour, just about ready to go back to bed now!

I am happy to have maintained this week considering I had 2 free days & lots of social stuff on. As you can see below I actually lost centimetres, some of this I suspect was girly bloat but was mostly boobage!

My waist measurement is only 1cm away from being no longer at risk of developing chronic disease. I could claim my reward of those sexay Doc Mary Janes but I think I'll wait until my pot belly measurement decreases by at least 10cm & my waist measurement well under 80cms.

Exercise Goals:
Thursday Night: Clean the house in prep for the parental visit on the weekend
Done - vac, mop, dust, file washing etc
Friday night: Nil
Saturday: maybe a walk in the arvo; cheering at the footy! -
walked too & from Victoria Pde to the MCG
Sunday: Zumba if I can get out of bed & leave the parental units. I was actually up in time, but pretty wrecked still.
Dad & I instead went down to the Williamstown Farmers Market & walked for 1.5 - 2 hours up & down the foreshore.
Monday: Pump couldn't be bothered to be honest. Instead pumped through 6 loads of washing

I came down with what I thought was sinusitis on Wednesday, but I'm wondering if it is going to turn into a cold now. Feeling fairly ordinary. The decongestants don't help with sleeping as I'm a bit sensitive to the pseudoephedrine that is in most daytime stuff & all in all I feel quite spacey. So if none of this makes sense, you will know why.

I bought some body fat calipers this week. Stay tuned to a whole new set of stats (once I figure out how to drive them!).

I bought George out of retirement Monday night. We were given a George Foreman Grill a few years ago, by peeps who's father in law had given it to them, but they never used it. We used it for about 6 months, then when I got my new fry pans, I retired it to the back of the cupboard.

I made Mediterranean style chicken with garlic, lemon, oregano, chili & Georged them. YUM! Not sure if it was George, the free range organic birdy's or a combination of those & the marinade. While it doesn't go in the dishwasher & can be a bit of a bugger to clean, I think George will remain out of retirement for a while yet.

I woke up this morning with shitty sinus's. The right side of my face feels like there are elves pounding with hammers trying to break out & I've got gunk running down the back of my throat onto my right tonsil which now feels like a basketball. That will teach me for bragging to my Ma that I hadn't been sick in ages. I'm hoping plumbing boy gets back to the office sooner than later so I can bugger off for a nap. Needless to say I'm only tackling easy jobs today after putting my coffee cup in the fridge & trying to put the carton of milk in the microwave. Ooops. Other way around doofus.

On Sunday, I went out for lunch in Williamstown with some of my Mums family - the rels visiting from WA & NSW. Very entertaining. We had 7 peeps over 60, myself in my age bracket (plumbing boy piked & went dirt bike riding) & my 3 cousins under 25.

The seniors amongst keep us entertained with their never ending forgetfulness & I think they'd all decided they needed brain scans to see if they had any left by the end of the meal! The young un's kept the oldies entertained with their slang & tales of recent travels.

The pub we went to had an interesting Thursday night activity............Bingo.

Not just any bingo though, they have BOGAN BINGO!!!!!

I couldn't resist taking this photo of this poster from the back of the "dunny" door. The banner out the front was just as funny, "bogan bingo, complete with crap prizes" amongst other things.

There was a lot of talk about bogans on the weekend. My 2 Melbourne cousin's were wanting to know who they were supposed to vote for in the upcoming election. To make it easy for them to have a clue who we were talking about, the 2 major's have been dubbed "bogan ranger chick" & "budgie smuggler marathon man". Funnily enough they both knew who we were talking about. Hope I haven't offended anyone here - I mean no disrespect. Well, not much anyway.

I think I was still half smashed during that conversation. Jax arrived home safely from her Europe trip & we had rather a late night Friday. Rumor has it we went to bed at 6.30am. I suspect I'd been asleep on the couch curled up amongst the stayers for a couple of hours BEFORE THEN.

The footy was good although we lost. My poor catters are starting to show their age I think; the collywobbles were just too quick for us!

This is my cheeky furball Friday afternoon. She actually almost fell off my desk trying to reach the lunch I was holding in my hands to keep her head out of it. Too funny. I'm wondering if she was scabbing food from the evil neighbours (or just eating the food rubbish the left in the street). Since they've left she's been begging massively for food!

Speaking of food, I think it's time for a cuppa - still recovering from Friday night I think!

This is from an email Dad sent me yesterday.....

Gwenda & Mum took me to see Inception last night. I had more fun standing in the rain drafting heifers yesterday! Lots of effects but a far fetched story (dream sharing & thought stealing) & very hard to follow. See you Saturday.


Dad hates anything scifi ish. We went to the movies when they were up last & I mentioned that I didn't think he'd like it. I remember drafting heifers in the rain. He must have really hated it.

This probably means I will LOVE it. Will have to go have a sticky beak soon!

I have a busy weekend ahead of me. Tonight Jax arrives home from her overseas trip. She's been in Europe for 3 months. Her plane gets in around 9.30pm so will be off to the airport with her Mum to pick her up, then I am staying a her place. I suspect it will be rather a late night with lots of giggles & a few drinks while we catch up!

Saturday night I am off to the footy again with Dad - should be a brilliant game & I hope it is close & that of course that we beat the Colliwobbles (sorry Cinders!!!!)

Saturday lunch & Sunday breakfast I think will be with my Mum's brother & wife who are visiting from Denham WA (the widest point of Australia on the west coast) & Jax's family & Mum & Dad.

I fear there will be little time for exercise & far too much food & booze consumed, but hey, thats life!

Friday night: Run & Cycle – didn’t go – one of our plumbers finished up & put on a bit of a BBQ for everyone so couldn’t leave until later, then I just couldn’t be bothered.

done & a 15 minute run!
Sunday: Zumba done
Monday: Pump worked til 7.30pm (pump finished @ 7.30pm)
Tuesday: Rest
Wednesday: THT class & Pump

Why on earth I added in the "every day" I do not know considering I didn't do any of them on any day. I don't think setting such high goals in order to guilt myself into exercising is working. I think I'll have to wait until my sister whips my butt at skiing fitness before I find a little more motivation! This week has also fallen over the end of the month, which means extra work for me getting all my debtor invoicing & statements done & I've chosen to stay in the office & work rather than get to the gym. My neck & shoulders are suffering for it, but that's life hey!

Food Goals:
Portion control
Not to overeat too much, sticking to around 20 points per day give or take.

Averaged 20.83 points over 6 days counted. This is working for me. I know it does as I did it last year leading up to our wedding. I might lose a bit of weight & body fat, but it doesn't get me fitter though!!!

Thursday 29th July

We are advertising for a new plumber at the moment. Plumbing Boy interviewed a guy last night. After interviewing for an hour & a half, he decided to offer the guy the job. The guy said yeah no worries. I'll just talk it over with my wife & get back to you in the morning. Then he said "um, their may be a bit of a problem though, I only know how to drive an auto".

Well says PB. That will be a problem. We only have manuals. I guess the next person I interview will have a new first question. The guy says "what?". PB says "can you drive a manual vehicle".

I know not everyone can drive a manual, but you'd expect a tradey in his mid 40's to have that skill. Wouldn't you?

I guess I will be rerunning the advert.

Him: (rather aggressively) You are under a misapprehension. This is NOT a cold call. You need to put me through to the owner or the manager NOW.

Me: (putting on a sad voice) I’m only trying to do my job & follow company procedure. Please don't make me cry. If you leave your name & number I’ll pass it on.
Him: (more aggressively & shouting) You cannot misunderstand my call. It is not a cold call & I need to speak to the business owner now.

Me: (sniffing). You are being really really mean to me & you are making me cry. I am just trying to do my job. I think you better put me through to your manager.
Him: I am the manager.

Me: (sniff sniff) well you are an extremely mean man & now I am going to hang up. CLUNK
